Q3 iPhone sales beat forecasts

Apple says it sold 717,000 iPhones in its Q3 to end-June and confirms 25 million App Store downloads.

Apple's quarterly iPhone unit sales came in at 717,000, compared to 270,000 3Q07, when the original device had only been in the market a few days.

Analysts had been predicting iPhone sales around the 705,000 unit mark.

The new iPhone 3G sold a million units in its first weekend of availability, but after Q3 had ended.
